Student Achievement

Shelton State Community College evaluates student success using a number of different measures throughout students’ academic careers. These outcomes emanate from the institutional goals found in the Shelton 2020 Strategic Plan. These measures were selected based on college, state, and federal performance indicators and published as of spring 2018.

Retention, full-time students: Percent of first-time, full-time students from the fall of first enrollment who are enrolled the following fall (US Department of Education Integrated Postsecondary Education Data system (IPEDS) data).

 

Outcome: SSCC will outperform the average full-time retention rate of the IPEDS Comparison Group.

Job Placement: Employment of graduates of Shelton State technical programs in the prior year, based on unemployment insurance data and faculty reporting (unemployment insurance data is limited to in-state students working for employers paying unemployment insurance). (Federal Perkins grant performance measure 4P1).

*The data collection source and processing methodologies were changed after the 2018-2019 year, resulting in a lower rate of confirmed job placement.

 

Outcome: SSCC will outperform the Alabama Community College System targeted level of performance for job placement.

Online Course Success: The overall success rate in online classes (Success = A/B/C for Fall Semester of academic year). The success rate for the traditional courses served as the threshold for accountability.

*During Fall 2020, we offered a significantly smaller pool of courses taught in both traditional and online formats for course success comparison due to COVID-19 policies.

 

Outcome: The overall success rate in online classes will be equal to or greater than the overall average course success rate in traditional classes.
