The College’s art exhibitions featured work by current and former Shelton State students. Shows included virtual formats on social media during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the semi-annual Student Art Exhibition offered the semester’s purchase award.

A campus tradition, local organizations and groups participated in Shelton State’s CONNECT in September 2019. Designed to connect students with community resources and organizations, the event grows each year and brings new faces and opportunities to Shelton State.

Though ultimately cut short due to COVID-19 regulations, the Shelton State Terrific Tuesday Concert Series for 2019-20 featured a wide variety of guest artists as well as performances from SSCC faculty; the College’s Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Concert Band, and choir; Bach to Rock and the Shelton Singers. For the third consecutive year, Theatre Tuscaloosa hosted the Alabama Conference of Theatre’s annual Community Theatre Festival (ACTFest). Artists from across the state showcased their work and competed for a spot at the Southeastern Theatre Conference Community Theatre Festival.

As part of Black History Month, Songs United brought together the Shelton Singers and the University of Alabama’s Afro American Gospel Choir for a second year. Sponsored by Collegiate 100, the two groups presented musical selections to support poetry and historical readings.
