ACT Prep @theDome

Beginning in summer 2018, Shelton State will offer non-credit classes in ACT Prep.

Classes are offered to current high school juniors, seniors, returning high school graduates, and GED recipients.

This instructor-led class will be designed to help students learn successful testing strategies, improve confidence, and lower testing anxiety. Each student will be assigned an individual ACT account and will have access to hundreds of sample test questions, study guides, flash cards, and two practice tests in addition to in-depth instruction during each class meeting.

Classes will be kept at a maximum of 20 students.

Meet the Instructor

Amber Barnes began her career as an educator at Hillcrest High School, where she first developed the ACT Preparatory program under the leadership of Principal Jeff Hyche. She has since helped countless Alabama students achieve their ACT score goals by teaching the content and testing strategies necessary for score improvement. In 2013, she broadened her sphere of influence and began traveling the state where she helped over fifty high schools develop and launch their own ACT programs. She is excited to partner with Shelton State Community College and bring her sixteen years of teaching experience, her expert knowledge of all things ACT, and, most of all, her passion for helping others to achieve their personal goals back into the ACT classroom.
