Applying for Graduation
Students eligible for graduation must complete a graduation application.
Click here to download a graduation application. Applications may be mailed, faxed, or submitted to the Office of Admissions and Records on the Martin Campus. For Spring 2013 graduation, applications must be submitted by
April 1, 2013 in order to have it processed and your name listed in the graduation program.
Cap and Gown, Invitation Information
Caps and gowns do not have to be pre-ordered. They will be available in the Bookstore on the Martin Campus by April 20, 2013. If special sizes are needed such as small or extra large, make your purchase early before the supply gets low. For more information contact the Bookstore at 205.391.2222.

Phi Theta Kappa (Honor Society) Graduates
If you plan to participate in the graduation ceremony, contact Claire Brock, Office 2408 on the Martin Campus, or call 205.391.3918 to purchase Phi Theta Kappa Honors tassel, stole, and/or honor cards.
Accommodations
Graduates who need to request special accommodations for the ceremony should contact the Dean of Student Services at 205.391.2216 by May 1, 2013.
Practice
Graduation practice is Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the gym
. Graduates are encouraged to attend.
Parking
Parking is available at the
West Entrance. The ceremony will be held in the
College Gymnasium.
Arrival
- Graduates are required to be dressed in cap and gown and lined up in the hallway near the Wellness Center one hour prior to the ceremony. Signs will be posted.
- Go to the check-in table to receive and verify your name card. Graduates will hand the name card to the announcer as they go on stage.
- Graduates will line up by degrees, certificates, short-term certificates. Graduates will then line up alphabetically by program of study.
Appropriate Attire
- Ladies: Please wear a dress (preferably without a collar) that does not show below the robe. Hosiery and dark, comfortable shoes are recommended. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum.
- Men: Wear dress slacks, dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes.
Note: Press graduation gowns with cool iron.
Positioning the Graduation Attire
- Position the cap so the top is flat. The cap should not be set on the back of the head. The front of the cap point should be approximately one inch above the eyebrows. Please secure with a bobby pin.
- Place the tassel on the right side during the ceremony. Graduates will be told when to move the tassel to the left.
Proper Stage Etiquette
- When walking toward the stage to receive the diploma, hand the name card to the announcer. Your name will be read as it has been printed on the card.
- Extend your right hand to shake hands with the person handing you the diploma and receive the diploma with your left hand. Smile, say thank you, and continue across the stage.
Appropriate Behavior
The Commencement Ceremony is a time of great honor and dignity and a special occasion for our graduates and their family members. We ask that you refrain from talking, cheering, excessive movement, and using electronic devices during the ceremony.
Conclusion of Ceremony
During the exiting processional after the Commencement Ceremony has concluded, staff members will be collecting diploma covers. If you completed prior to this semester and have already received your diploma and cover in the mail, please give it to one of the staff members upon exiting. If you are completing this semester, please take the cover with you and we will mail the diploma insert when it comes in from the printer. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

Faculty/staff participants should be dressed in cap and gown and be lined up at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.

Parking
Parking is available at the
West Entrance. The ceremony will be held in the
College Gymnasium. For disability parking, your state-issued disability placard must be prominently displayed inside your vehicle.
Seating
Seating will be available on a first come first serve basis due to limited capacity.

Photography and Video
Photography and video are allowed during the ceremony. Family and friends are welcomed to move closer to the stage to take photographs of their graduate as they receive their diploma and exit the stage.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, family and friends can meet their graduate outside the gymnasium.
