Scheduling an appointment with an advisor

Q: Who should schedule an appointment with an advisor? 
A: Any student who has NOT been assigned to a Navigator.  Students who need career and/or program guidance, assistance in registering, creating a schedule, and/or evaluation for graduation, need to schedule an appointment with an advisor.  Students who began on and after August 2012 at Shelton are required to see their advisor before each registration period.

Q: How do I find out if I have an assigned advisor?
A: You can log into myShelton (  Any student who started as a freshman at Shelton on or after August 2012 will have an assigned advisor listed.  Students who began before August 2012 may not have an advisor listed.

Q: Why is it important to have an assigned advisor?
Your advisor is an important resource on campus.   Advisors help you in the development of degree completion plans, work with you to resolve academic and personal concerns and act as a liaison between departments on the your behalf to ensure a seamless student experience.   

Q: What do I do if I do not have an assigned advisor?
A: You will need to log on to mySSCC Advisor ( and select an advisor that is available.  This advisor could become your advisor.  Follow the instructions listed below.
Q: When should I schedule an appointment with an advisor?
A: Any time you have questions about academic requirements and course selection. Your advisor is also available to discuss possible solutions to course withdrawal and can help with the transfer process when you are ready to transition to a four-year college or university.  It is important to schedule your appointment before registration begins. For specific registration dates, go to Schedule of Classes and Select Term > View Printed Version Entire Schedule.
