All students who receive scholarship awards must submit a request for the funding to be applied to the tuition and fee charges. The entire balance must be paid before the published payment due date as listed in the printed schedule of classes.
Please take a moment to see if you meet the requirements for the 2013 All-USA Scholarship Competition. You DO NOT have to be a member of PTK to apply. The deadline is noon on December 2, ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS!!
You must currently be enrolled at SSCC and have earned at least 30 college-level academic hours at a community college within the past five years by the end of the Fall 2013 semester. You must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA overall. Your record must be free from suspension, probation, or other serious disciplinary action.
Please read the additional information below about the All-USA Scholarship. Be sure to use the Enrollment Key provided at the end of this e-mail. Without the Enrollment Key, your application will not be grouped with Shelton State Community College and therefore will not be considered.
“We are pleased to announce that the All-USA Community College Academic Team and the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Programs will continue in 2013.  The collaboration of USA TODAY, Follett Higher Education Group, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, The Coca-Cola Foundation, AACC, and Phi Theta Kappa will lead to students being featured in an April issue of USA TODAY and the awarding of nearly $350,000 in scholarships to outstanding community college students.  We have the opportunity to nominate up to two students per campus to participate in this competition, and our college has the opportunity to receive national press recognition should one of our nominees be identified as a scholar.
In addition to recognition by USA TODAY, Follett, Coca-Cola, nominees to these programs are recognized in All-State Academic Team programs held in 37 states of which Alabama is one. All-State Team program offer students academic scholarships, stipends, newspaper coverage, medallions and/or certificates. By nominating students to the All-USA Community College Academic Team national program, we are able to provide additional scholarship opportunities for nominees to which they would otherwise not have access. 

At this time we are seeking qualified applications.   In selecting nominees to represent our institution, we ask you to consider the eligibility criteria to determine if you might be a good fit for the scholarship.  The scholarships seek to award students with outstanding academic rigor and grade point averages; participation in honors programs, awards, honors, and recognition for academic achievement, and service to the college and community.
In addition, the focal point of the application is the essay. This should center around one endeavor undertaken by the student that utilized his or her community college education to improve his or her community or school. Judges look for innovative, creative, original and lasting achievements or undertakings.

To apply complete the following:  Phi Theta Kappa members may log in using their Phi Theta Kappa username and password.  If they have forgotten their log in, follow the steps on the log in page for "PTK Member Password Recovery."  Non-members may access the application by selecting the link that says "Create Non-Member Account" on the log in page.  Non-members should follow the instructions to create an account and view the application.
Once the student has logged in, he or she should select the link in the center of the page that says "2013 Fall Common Scholarship."  They should follow the instructions and enter the enrollment key when instructed.  The application is a Common Application and Phi Theta Kappa members may apply for separate Phi Theta Kappa Guistwhite, GEICO and/or Hites Transfer Scholarships at the same time as the All-USA Community College Academic Team.
