MTH 113-01 Trigonometry
3 Credit Hours
Course Information

Prerequisite(s)	Students must have successfully completed MTH 112 (C or higher), placed into MTH 113 on the ASSET test (NS +39 plus CA 47-49), on the COMPASS test (CA 46-100 or Trig. 0-45), have a score of 27 on the math portion of the ACT test , or have a Letter of Good Standing stating they qualify for this course. Students are required to complete prerequisites for this course. Students who enroll without completing prerequisites for this course may be withdrawn by the College and may not qualify for a refund of tuition. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that all course prerequisites are completed and documented at the College.
Course Description	This course is a continuation of Math 112. It is designed for students who plan to major in a field that requires calculus (Math 125) or physics with trigonometry (Physics 201). Topics covered include trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities and equations, the Law of Sines, the Law of Cosines, complex numbers in rectangular and trigonometric form, DeMoivre’s Theorem, polar coordinates, and vectors
Student Learning Outcomes	Demonstrate knowledge of the six basic trigonometric functions. Demonstrate competence in the geometry of trigonometric functions. Analyze trigonometric functions. Use trigonometric functions in applications. Demonstrate critical thinking skills.

Required textbook and Course Materials	Precalculus, 3rd Edition (with MyMathLab access code) Author: Robert Blitzer A graphing calculator is required-the TI 89 is recommended. Course ID for MyMathLab is blount84565
Last Date of Withdrawal	December 3, 2007 is the last day to withdraw from class.
Make-up policy	Students who miss a test or quiz should contact the instructor before the next class meeting. Students who have an excused absence (see Standard College Policies sheet) should present documentation and complete any make-up work within one week of the last day covered by their excuse. Students who will miss a test or quiz because of official school events must make arrangements for making up work prior to missing.
Daily Activities, Class Participation, Pop Quizzes, etc.	A number of quizzes will be given. At least one quiz grade will be dropped. Students who are tardy will not be given extra time for quizzes or tests. TAKE HOME QUIZZES ARE DUE AT THE Beginning of class.
Final Examination	The final exam is comprehensive and will be given 3:30-5:30pm, Monday, December 17, 2007

Academic Misconduct

Students are expected to be honorable in all college assignments. Suspected cases of academic misconduct are reported to the Dean of Instructional Services.

Attendance Policy

SSCC Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend all classes for which they are registered, to be prompt and to remain in class/lab for the entire time. Attendance will be recorded at every class/lab meeting. On the final grade report, instructors are required to identify the last day of attendance for all students who receive a grade of “F” or “U.” Students who are unable to attend class regularly, regardless of the reason or circumstance, should withdraw from the class. Withdrawal from class can affect eligibility for federal financial aid.

Standard College Policies

The Standard College Policies apply to all classes at the college and are a part of every official course syllabus; each student receives a copy when he or she completes the vehicle registration/waiver procedure. Note that the final exam is required for everyone and counts 32% of the semester grade. There are no exemptions.

The final exam will also count a second time as a replacement grade for the lowest test grade if this replacement helps.

Grading:

Tests are based on assignments from text and MML. Letter grades will be assigned according to the following:
