Departmental Completion and Success Rates Fall 2012

Completion Rates

A completer is defined as a student who remained in a course for the entire semester and received a grade.  In the Fall 2012 semester, 5144 students represented an enrollment of 17,180 class sections. Of those enrollments, 85.5% (14,694) of the grades were A, B, C, D, F, S, or U, representing the students who completed the semester and received a grade in the course.  Only 14.5% (2,486) were grades of W, or I for students who did not complete the course.  The highest completion rates were in the cosmetology instructor, computerized numerical control, and diesel mechanics programs where 100% of the enrolled students completed the courses.

Twenty-seven departments had completion rates of 90% or above.  Thirty-six departments had completion rates between 70% and 90%.  Only one department had a completion rate below 70%.

Success Rates

Successful completers in English and Math are defined as students who receive a grade of A, B, C, or S.  In all other areas, a successful completer is one who receives a grade of A, B, C, D, or S. Of the completers in Fall 2012, 71.4% were successful using the above definitions.  There were seven departments with successful completion rates of over 90%. The academic programs with at least 90% successful completion rates included respiratory therapy, and nursing.  The technical programs with at least 90% successful completion rates were cosmetology instructor, computerized numerical control, machine tool technology, and diesel mechanics.

Thirty-five departments had successful completion rates between 70% and 89%.  Twenty-two departments had successful completion rates below 70%.
