As of February 10, 2010, influenza continues to circulate throughout the state. Of the positive influenza specimens submitted to the state laboratory in the last three weeks, all specimens were the 2009 H1N1 <http://adph.org/h1n1flu> strain. View the Influenza Surveillance Map <http://dph.state.al.us/influenza/maps/> . Hover over counties to view subtypes identified.

You may also call the Influenza Hotline, (877) 377-7285 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A live operator is available to answer your call and provide flu immunization information. After hours, leave a message, and your call will be returned the next day.
What can you do to protect yourself and your family from the spread of the flu?
To reinforce the safeguards you have probably heard before, the Department of Public Health has recommended the following guidelines for the prevention of the spread of Novel H1N1 Influenza:
• Frequently was your hands with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer for at least 30 seconds.
• Frequently wash your hands, especially after coughing and/or sneezing.
• Alcohol-rub or wash before and after EVERY contact.
• Avoid sharing personal items.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
