What is ELO 100?
eLearning Orientation (ELO) is designed to ensure that students are prepared for the online teaching/learning environment. Emphasis is placed on self motivation, time management skills, individual learning styles, and technical skills needed in an online environment. This course is a prerequisite to all online classes.
Is there a cost for ELO 100?
No, there is no charge.
Who has to take ELO 100?
Any student who plans to take an online class at Shelton State must successfully complete ELO 100 prior to registering for an online class.
If I have taken online classes before do I have to take it?
ELO 100 is required of all students regardless of past online experience.
Can I take ELO 100 if I am not planning to take an online class this semester?
Yes, once a student successfully completes ELO 100, he/she can register for an online class any semester.
When is ELO 100 offered?
ELO 100 is offered each semester.
How do I register?
Current students may self register online through Blackboard (click here for steps on how to register). All incoming freshman must complete an application for admission (and submit a valid ID).
How do I access the class after I register?
ELO 100 will be completed in Blackboard. After self registering for ELO 100, the course will be visible in your My Courses under Courses in which you are enrolled list. Log into Blackboard.
Do I have to take it each semester?
No, once a student completes ELO 100, he/she can enroll in online classes.
Is there a book required?
How long does it take to complete ELO 100?
The time will vary based on a student's skill level.
How long will I have access to ELO 100?
Registration is now open for ELO 100. You must successfully complete ELO 100 before you can register for any online classes.
Will I receive credit for ELO 100?
No, ELO 100 is a noncredit class.
Will I receive a grade for ELO 100?
A student will receive an S (satisfactory) with a score of 21 out of 21 points.
Once I have completed ELO 100, how will I know my grade?
Your work for ELO 100 is checked by the staff on a daily basis. Once you have a score of 21 in your grade book, your grade will generally be posted by the end of the next business day in the APECS system To obtain grades, visit your Online Student Account.
If I do not successfully pass ELO 100 the first time, how many times can I take it?
A student who fails to successfully complete ELO 100 after two attempts, will not be allowed to attempt the course until they complete the tutorial program. A student who fails to pass ELO 100 on the third attempt will be referred to the Advising Center for advising before he/she can enroll in ELO 100 again.
Does this count for my course load or financial aid?
Once I complete ELO 100 when will I be able to register for an online class?
Your work for ELO 100 is checked by the staff on a daily basis. What happens if I choose not to complete ELO 100?
A student will not be able to register for any online classes.
Will ELO 100 be on my official transcript?
No, however, the grade will post on the unofficial transcript.
