Library Services for eLearning

Students enrolled in eLearning classes at Shelton State Community College are eligible for a wide range of online library services. Students who are concurrently enrolled in classes on campus, however, are expected to use library resources and services while on campus. The goal of the library staff is to respond to all eLearning requests within 24 hours (during regular library hours).
 
ELearning students have online access to the library's home page at www.sheltonstate.edu/library where there is a special link to services specifically designed for them. These services include online links to the library catalog, library instruction and tutorials, inter-library loan, and books-by-mail. In addition, library staff members have developed online web guides for reference and for many subject areas to help students navigate the expanses of the Web and locate quality resources. One of the most useful on-line library services available to eLearning students is access to the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL). Eligible students may register online for a home access card which will provide information for accessing the Alabama Virtual Library from home, office, or other remote site. The Alabama Virtual Library provides online access to more than 30 databases, encyclopedias, full-text magazine and journal articles, and full-text reference tools.
 
At the present, the Shelton State Libraries do not have the facilities to provide online real-time reference services, electronic reserves, or access to audiovisual materials. Efforts are being made to design and improve online access in each of these areas. In the meantime, students may e-mail reference questions to librarians, dgrimes@sheltonstate.edu, or phone any librarian directly during regular library hours.
